Sweet Goodbyes
I had to let go of my sweet Scout in late Aughust. His heart was failing him and I knew he was ready to go. He started doing those things that dogs do to prepare us for their exit.
On his final day James called me that morning and said that Scout was not doing well at all. I loaded up the truck and hurried the 2.5 hour drive home as safely as I could.
When I got home Scout was laying across the hallway with his head resting on the hvac intake. I knelt down next to him and stoked his head as he quietly passed away.
Goodbye Scout, until we meet again.
I brought him back to Helenwood and buried him in a spot overlooking the holler.
Rest Well, my friend.
